Many of you may be very familiar with Infinity or Cyclorama Coves as they are often called. However, we have set out here an overview of the coves, the designs, uses and our own experiences of how to approach a successful cove installation. Starting with the various uses and considerations we then explain the options and solutions we can provide.
If you don’t find the information you require don’t hesitate to ask, we are always ready to help
In their simplest form the cove may just be one back wall to form a cyclorama backdrop. This is the lowest cost option and in many cases gives enough backdrop for the work required. Single wall coves have a distinct square shape in each of the rear wall corners and the curve is at floor and sometimes ceiling levels.
The next step is to create a two wall cove with floor curves on two sides and one three way corner curve. This approach gives a much greater flexibility, extending the angles for shooting images and film.
The most sophisticated and flexible approach is to create a three wall cove. This provides curves on the rear wall and both side walls with two three way corners. With this approach you can get the largest number of angles for filming. This type of approach is more suited to a full studio room. Our coves are constructed as free standing if required so a three way cove could be installed within a much larger room if required.
In order to give even further scope for steep shooting angles a top curve can be added to the cove. This will allow close up shuts from low angles with much less chance of running out of background. This isn't usually needed for most work but if you want ultimate flexibility top curves can be a great addition to the cove.
Often the space at the sides or behind the cove can be wasted. To make use of this valuable space we have several designs for cupboards and cabinets or just simple bounce board storage perhaps. We can even include tubes for storing colour rolls if required.
Every cove needs high quality lighting and we work with trusted specialists to provide high quality lighting solutions. It is a great advantage to plan the lighting alongside the cove installation to integrate lighting support rigging and ensure an exact match with the cove shape and dimensions.
